God dam war. We're all imagers of the Divine. War is destruction of what's holy.

When Putin attacked Ukraine some years back, I immediately did this cover version of the legendary song. But what happened to me was what often happens to us in times of crisis. When you're surrounded by bad news daily, you become saturated and passive and it doesn't move you anymore.

So we forgot Afghanistan and we hardly noticed Azerbaijani offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh, Myanmar, Nigeria, Konga, but when Hamas and Israel started the bullshittery I felt like waking up to a bad dream again. I dug the two years old tracks from the archives and listened back to it. It was almost done except the vocals. And there was only one person in Finland who could do it the way I heard it in my head. It needed to be someone who felt the futility of war strongly and had the fire and brimstone to spit it out.

Mark, the veteran of the trade, didn't need convincing to give his voice to this song. It's almost 50 years since the Erik Starr debuted 'War' and nothing has changed in our societies. That's the reason why the interpretation is angrier than ever.

I don't know if I believe in world of peace but I believe there is inner peace for everyone. The individuals who have grasped the edges of real peace have no reason to fight.
